“Mr. Jones” Film Screening - Oct 26
“Mr. Jones” is a film about the courageous uncovering of past atrocities, with sobering relevance for what we are witnessing in the current Russo-Ukraninan conflict.
From UMPI press release:
“The University of Maine at Presque Isle will offer a film screening of ‘Mr. Jones’ as part of the event titled ‘Holodomor or Red Famine: Stalin’s War on Ukraine,’ on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Multi-Purpose Room. "Mr Jones" is a 2019 biographical thriller film directed by Agnieszka Holland.
It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. The film loosely tells the story of Gareth Jones, a journalist from Wales, who in 1933 travels to the Soviet Union and uncovers the truth about the Holodomor, the devastating famine in Ukraine in which millions died.”
A short introduction will precede the screening of the film and there will be a Q&A after it’s done. This screening is supported by the Libra Distinguished Lecture Series. This event is free and open to the public.
