“Wait For It” - Lenten Video

Last week, we shared The Knowing, the first video in a video series “Becoming: a Season of Rebirthing” that we are offering in the coming weeks of Lent. The series is the result of a creative collaboration of singer-songwriter Shellee Layne Coley, poet Kelly Ann Hall, and filmmaker Travis Reed (The Work of the People).

The poem in The Knowing was written as a reflection on Adam and Eve hiding in the garden. In Wait For It, the second video (below), the poem is God’s response to them.

We hear echoes of what God tells Adam and Eve about the work of re-creation in John 3, when Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born again, dying to self. What we might hear in both instances is that the kind of radical transformation God, and Jesus, calls us to make is a process, potentially painstaking, not a quick fix. So patience, persistence, and prayer will be valued companions. “Waiting is our job for now.” **
