Lent at Our Church
As the season of Lent begins, we’ve planned a few events and activities in the coming weeks, for both fellowship and faith formation. All are welcome!
Soup Suppers: we will break bread together and share Lenten table devotions on Monday, March 6, and Monday, March 27. Meals will begin at 5:30 pm. If you wish to provide either a pot of soup or a loaf of bread, sign-up sheets are available at the church. Or, email Melissa Vance to let her know what you can bring, and which date.
Book Discussion Group: an in-person group will read and talk about the new book by Kate Bowler and Jessica Richie: The Lives We Actually Have: 100 Blessings for Imperfect Days. The group will meet at the church starting Friday, Feb 24 at 11:00 am. Let Melissa Vance know if you wish to join the group. There’s still a space for you. Lenten Devotional Guides to accompany the book will be available for participants.
Here's a thought from the book:
We live in a world that demands relentless perfection. Happy marriages and easy friendships. Bucket-list-level adventures and matching family photos. But what if your actual life doesn’t feel very #blessed? Might our regular lives be worthy of a blessing too? Even an average Tuesday?
From Kate Bowler’s website:
New York Times bestselling authors Kate Bowler and Jessica Richie offer creative, faith-based blessings that center gratitude and hope while acknowledging our real, messy lives. Formatted like a prayer book, The Lives We Actually Have is an oasis and a landing spot for weary souls, with blessings that focus on the full range of human moments: garbage days, lovely days, grief-stricken days, and even (especially) completely ordinary days. These heartfelt blessings are a sanctuary for anyone who needs a chance to exhale when we feel everything from careworn to restless, devasted to bored. Let’s have a reminder that we don’t have to wait for a perfect life when we can bless the lives we actually have.
