Area-Wide Yard Sale Success

Saturday, June 3, dawned rainy, windy and chilly here in Presque Isle. Fellowship Hall held treasures that waited in expectation of a grand march of shoppers, who’d be following Chamber of Commerce maps of the registered yard sale locations for the Presque Isle Area-Wide Yard Sale. All through the town there were not many people out and about at 9:00 am. Our parking lot was empty except for the vehicles of the faithful who had organized our sale.

A few people dropped by the church for the Food Sale as well as the Yard Sale. Hot coffee was the biggest draw as shoppers needed to warm up. Small appliances, Christmas decorations, china service for eight, and at least three Christmas trees were some of the items. While big crowds didn’t swarm the building at opening, a steady flow came and purchased. An Amish horse and buggy “parked” in the far end of the parking lot – a first in probably over a hundred twenty-five years!

While we worried about the weather, the sale was both fun and profitable for us, with proceeds exceeding $1,150.00. Many thanks go to the Welcome and Care Ministry, chaired by Carolyn Woodman, for organizing the sale; Sara Harvey for coordinating the Food Sale and Coffee Bar; Claude Brissette, Bill and Diane Deschesne, Peggy Woodman, and Susie James for organizing and pricing; Ginette Rivard for acting as cashier. And thank you to many others who shared in the work of the day. Items not sold were donated to the Hope and Justice Project and to Catholic Charities. Proceeds from the sale will benefit our local missions.
